ACC so far seizes assets worth Tk 2,398 cr of 43 persons

DHAKA, Jan 16, 2026 (BSS) - Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) at the directives of the court has so far seized and froze assets worth about Taka 2,398 crore from 43 persons.

The persons include influential Awami League figures like Beximco Vice Chairman Salman F Rahman, S Alam Group Chairman Mohammad Saiful Alam, former State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammad Shahriar Alam and former Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas.

This information was obtained from the list of the assets seized and froze by the ACC under court orders in December. 

During this period, the ACC executed 36 court orders related to seizure, freezing and appointment of receivers on assets of 43 individuals.

ACC executed 23 orders under which it seized movable and immovable assets worth about Taka 1,846 crore, while the financial value of frozen assets is about Taka 550.66 crore  

According to the ACC, 1,483 decimals of land belongs to Beximco Group Chairman Salman F Rahman was confiscated and Taka 54.66 crore deposited in bank accounts were frozen.

With a court order, shares of 21 companies owned by former Premier Bank chairman Hefzul Bari Mohammad Iqbal was frozen with estimated value of Taka 62.95 crore.

In addition, 321 bank pay orders were frozen valued over Taka 242.90 crore. Altogether, the total value of seized and frozen assets against him stands at Taka 305.86 crore.

Huge assets of S Alam Group Chairman Mohammad Saiful Alam were seized and frozen under court orders. The properties include 193,650 decimals land with estimated value of Taka 1,694 crore. 

Additionally, shares of 10 companies worth about Taka 32.75 crore were frozen and 86 bank accounts with a balance of Taka about 17.76 crore were frozen. 

Overall, the preliminary estimated value of the seized and frozen assets is over Taka 1,740 crore.

As per court order the ACC seized two flats of former state minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam worth about Taka 1.24 crore. At the same time, 120.7 decimals land valued at about Taka 1.41 crore were seized. 

In addition, shares of 26 companies worth about Taka 66.55 crore were frozen. The total value of the seized and frozen assets is over Taka 69 crore.

Under the court orders against former Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, 10 bank accounts with a balance of Taka 1.82 crore were frozen. In addition, 10 FDRs with balance of Taka 8.59 crore were frozen. As a result, the total frozen assets in his name is worth about Taka 10.42 crore.

According to the ACC the assets were seized under court directives as part of investigations and judicial proceedings related to corruption, acquisition of wealth beyond known income sources, embezzlement and money laundering. 

The accused persons former members of parliament, former ministers, senior government officials, public representatives, businesspeople and other influential individuals.

Meanwhile, the ACC control room reported that in December the commission filed 56 cases against a total of 579 individuals. 

During the same period, 62 charge sheets were submitted against 234 individuals and eight final reports were also submitted granting acquittal to nine people. 

In addition, 138 new inquiries were initiated and orders were issued for submission of 50 wealth statements.

Deputy Director (Prevention) of the ACC’s Public Relations Department Md. Aktarul Islam said the commission has further strengthened its inquiry and investigation activities to identify, seize and bring illegally acquired assets obtained through corruption in favor of the state. 

He said the ACC prioritizes crimes and corruption rather than individuals’ political identities and will continue to work in the same manner in the future.

Through implementation of court orders, the ACC is ensuring proper management and preservation of the assets.

ACC Director General (Prevention) Md. Akhtar Hossain said necessary measures have been taken in accordance with the court directives and the activities in this regard will continue in the days to come.
