DHAKA, Jan 10, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the return of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman to the country has created an opportunity to build a liberal democratic state after many years.
"Today, at a critical time, our leader Tarique Rahman has returned to the country from abroad. The dream of building this country that he has shown to us has made the entire nation much more hopeful today,” he said.
He added, “Their expectation is that after many years, under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, we will be able to build Bangladesh as a liberal democratic state."
Fakhrul made the remarks in his address of welcome at the view exchange event between BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and editors and senior journalists of various national dailies at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Sheraton in Banani in the city.
The event began at 11:20 AM with the recitation from the Holy Quran by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Prior to this, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman exchanged pleasantries with the journalists present.
Later, in his brief speech, the BNP Secretary General paid deep respect to former Chairperson of BNP and three-time Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, freedom fighters of 1971, fighters of the July Uprising (2024) and those, who sacrificed their lives in the anti-fascist mass uprising.
He said their sacrifices have created an unprecedented opportunity for us to build a democratic state.
