BAGERHAT, Jan 7, 2026 (BSS) - The Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant at Rampal here in the district supplied the highest amount of electricity to the national grid in December 2025.
According to the plant authorities, the power station generated 640 million units (MU) of electricity during the month, accounting for 11.5 percent of the country's total electricity production. Overall power generation across Bangladesh in December stood at 5,531 million units.
Anwarul Azim, Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) of the Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant, shared the information in a press release issued today.
The release noted that the plant had also performed strongly in the previous month, demonstrating its consistent and stable production capacity. It added that the coal supply system is currently robust, with around 800,000 metric tons of coal unloaded over the past two months. At present, the plant has a coal stock of about 200,000 tons.
Authorities expressed optimism that there will be no disruption to power supply during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
The Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant is a joint venture between Bangladesh and India. It operates using imported coal and employs ultra-supercritical technology to enhance electricity generation while minimizing environmental pollution.
To ensure environmental protection, the plant is equipped with advanced facilities, including a Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) system, electrostatic precipitators, a 275-meter-high chimney, a closed-cycle cooling system and a zero liquid discharge system.
