Tarique Rahman goes to northern region Sunday on 4-day visit

DHAKA, Jan 7, 2026 (BSS)- BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to visit country’s northern region for four days from 11 January to 14. 

BNP has formally informed the concerned Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Returning Officers (RO) today about the visit.

ABM Abdus Sattar, Personal Secretary to the Acting Chairman of BNP, has sent a letter to DCs and ROs of Dhaka, Gazipur, Tangail, Sirajganj, Bogura, Gaibandha, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Nilphamari,Lalmonirhat, and Kurigram districts.

The letter stated that BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will visit the graveyard of the martyred July fighters and those killed in the long democratic movement to pay homage, participate in prayer gatherings, and attend religious and social programmes organized to pray for the salvation of the soul of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

It was further stated that the tour is entirely part of religious and social programmes and will in no way violate the Code of Conduct of the Bangladesh Election Commission. 

Necessary security and overall cooperation on this occasion have been requested.

According to the itinerary Tarique Rahman will go to Bogura from Dhaka on January 11 via Tangail and Sirajganj.

He will stay night at Bogura and on January 12 he will go to Thakurgaon from Bogura via Rangpur (Pirganj) and Dinajpur.

After night stay at Thakurgaon, he will reach Rangpur via Panchagarh, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat on January 13.

On January 14, he will return Dhaka from Rangpur via Bogura (Gabtali), the party sources said.

The programme includes visiting and holding prayers at the graveyards of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, July martyr Abu Sayeed, Tarique Rahman’s maternal grandmother late Tayeba Majumdar and martyrs of different democratic movement and July Uprising.

Tarique Rahman will also hold courtesy meetings with the families of martyrs and injured July fighters.
