DHAKA, Jan 3, 2026 (BSS) – Dr Kamal Hossain, a key architect of the Bangladesh constitution and emeritus president of Gonoforum, has been hospitalized at Square Hospital in the capital on Friday. 

Gonoforum Acting President Advocate Subrata Chowdhury told BSS this afternoon that Dr Kamal Hossain has been suffering from lung-related complications. 

As Dr Kamal felt unwell, he was taken to Square Hospital on Friday, he added.

Advocate Subrata Chowdhury said Dr Kamal Hossain’s physical condition is currently stable. 

“At present, he is undergoing treatment at the hospital’s High Dependency Unit (HDU). After further observation, he may be shifted to a cabin,” he added.

Subrata also sought prayers from people across the country for Dr Kamal Hossain’s speedy recovery and sound health.

Gonoforum founder Dr Kamal Hossain last appeared in public on Wednesday when he went to Manik Mia Avenue to attend the namaz-e-janaza of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

88-year-old Dr Kamal Hossain is a renowned jurist and constitutional expert and served as the head of the committee that drafted the Constitution of Bangladesh in 1972.
