DHAKA, Dec 29, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Day 2025 was celebrated today with due dignity and enthusiasm across the country.
The day began at 6:32 am with BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui hoisting the regimental flag at BGB Headquarters, followed by paying tribute to the martyrs of the Great Liberation War at the ‘Border Glory’ memorial in Pilkhana.
Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury attended the main ceremony as chief guest at Shaheed Shakil Ahmed Hall, where he presented medals to 72 BGB members for their outstanding services.
These included 12 BGB Medals (BGBM), 24 President’s Border Guard Medals (PBGM), 12 BGB Medals-Service (BGBMS), and 24 President’s Border Guard Medals-Service (PBGMS). Titled freedom fighters of BGB and their families were also felicitated.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Ghani and the BGB Director General were present at the event.
Later, the Home Affairs Adviser planted trees at the BGB headquarters and signed the VVIP register.
A central banquet was held in the afternoon, attended by advisers of the interim government, service chiefs, political leaders, civil society representatives, senior officials, and journalists.
Special prayers were also offered in BGB mosques nationwide and similar programs were organized at all BGB units.
The BGB Day was celebrated today as December 20 had been declared a national mourning day following the martyrdom of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
