JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Dec 27, 2025 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University Journalists' Association (JUJA) today screened a documentary on the July 2024 mass uprising and unveiled its commemorative souvenir 'Arunodoy,' highlighting the campus movement and preserving its historical significance.

The programme was held at the university's Senate Building at around 2:00 pm, with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan attending as the chief guest.

JUJA President Mehedi Mamun presided over the event, while executive member Soikat Islam moderated the programme.

Addressing the event, JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan said documenting movements through photographs and writings plays an important role in preserving history and inspiring future generations.

Recalling past movements against administrative irregularities at the university, the VC said JUJA members faced harassment but never deviated from truth. "They endured repression, yet they did not compromise their professional integrity," he said.

Pro-VC (Academic) Professor Dr M Mahfuzur Rahman said the university had been a strong centre of protest during the mass uprising, adding that such initiatives would help the new generation learn history and build awareness.

"Journalism is not only about instant news reporting but also about preserving the history of time, society and movements," said JUJA adviser Professor Dr Saleh Ahammad Khan, describing Arunodoy as a successful effort in that direction.

Prominent attendee included Treasurer Prof Dr M Abdur Rab, JUJA Adviser Prof Saleh Ahmed Khan, and Executive Director of Sharif Metal Limited Mohammad Tanvir Alam, acting Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Dr Md Shamsul Alam, acting Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Mafruhi Sattar, Professor Dr Kh. Lutful Elahi of History Department and Professor Dr Md Abdul Halim of Botany Department attended the programme.

Student representatives present included JUCSU VP Abdur Rashid Zitu, GS Md Mazharul Islam, JUJA General Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal JU unit Convener Jahir Uddin Mohammad Babor, Member Secretary Wasim Ahmed Anik, Islami Chhatra Shibir JU unit President Muhibur Rahman Muhib, Jatiya Chhatra Shakti JU unit President Zia Uddin Ayaan and General Secretary Nadia Rahman Annesa, along with over a hundred students.
