DHAKA, Dec 24, 2025 (BSS) - Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said that media exchange plays a vital role in understanding the civilization and culture of both countries.
"Media exchange allows us to learn closely from each other. The foundation of China-Bangladesh media exchange is the life and culture of our peoples. This provides a strong base for building a relationship of justice between the two countries," he said.
The envoy made the remarks at a function titled 'Golden Silk Road Bangladesh Media Award' held at the National Art Gallery of the Shilpakala Academy here on Wednesday.
Yao Wen said the Golden Silk Road platform has been formed with the participation of 10 media groups from Bangladesh and China. He added that it would help build mutual confidence among the people and strengthen the friendship between the two countries.
"The Golden Silk Road platform is an excellent example of mutual learning and is contributing to the progress of human civilization," he said. "It shines brightly due to the efforts of media professionals. I believe it will serve as a bridge connecting our civilizations."
Referring to the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh, the ambassador said this year also marks a period of enhanced people-to-people exchanges. He added that Bangladesh will complete 10 years of joining the Belt and Road Initiative next year.
Mr. Yao highlighted China's commitment to high-quality development, emphasizing the importance of people-centric growth, self-reliance in technology, and environmental sustainability. "This is the foundation of China's development," he said.
Expressing hope for media cooperation in showcasing China-Bangladesh friendship, he said, "I hope the media of both countries will highlight the friendship stories between China and Bangladesh. Together, we will strengthen the bond between our peoples. The Golden Silk Road will help build a developed future and open a bright chapter for our friendship."

During the function, media awards were distributed in five categories. SM Nazmul Huq Imon of Bhorer Kagaj won first place in the sports and cultural category, while Mahmud Zaman Avi of BD News 24 received first place in the visual category.
Munir Hossen of Daily Sun won first place in the economy and technology category, Selim Hossain of Rupali Bangladesh topped the news reporting category, and Imrul Hasan of RTV received first place in media innovation.
Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Mahbub Morshed handed over the prize among the winners of visual category.
Addressing the event, the BSS chief said, the programme has created a cultural bond between China and Bangladesh.
He hoped that similar initiatives would continue in the future to deepen people-to-people relations and promote cultural exchange.
The function was also attended by Faruque Wasif, Director General of Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), Mainul Hasan Sohel, General Secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), officials from the Chinese Embassy, and other dignitaries.
