DHAKA, Dec 22, 2025 (BSS) – Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has asked law enforcement agencies to intensify the nationwide Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 to contain fascist terrorist activities ahead of the forthcoming 13th parliamentary elections scheduled for February 12.

“Strengthen Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 to contain the activities of fascist terrorist elements,” he said.

The Home Adviser made the remarks today while briefing reporters after the 18th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order and security preparations for the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) polls.

The decision to launch “Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2” was taken on December 13, 2025, with the aim of stopping the activities of fascist terrorists, he said.

According to official figures, a total of 6,598 people were arrested under the operation between December 13 and December 20, 2025.

During the same period, 13,505 people were arrested in total, including 6,907 individuals detained in connection with previous cases and outstanding warrants.

Law enforcement agencies also recovered a large cache of arms and materials during the operation, including 56 firearms, 437 rounds of bullets, 137 cartridges, 62 indigenous weapons, as well as grenades, mortar shells, gunpowder, fireworks and bomb-making materials.

Following a high-level meeting, law enforcement agencies have intensified nationwide security operations, issuing a series of directives to strengthen public safety and prevent terrorist activities.

The directives include accelerating arrests under Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2, expanding intelligence surveillance, and keeping specialised forces on standby to protect key point installations (KPIs).

Authorities have also been instructed to enhance search operations by setting up check posts at strategic locations across the country, including the Dhaka metropolitan area.

The overall law and order situation is being monitored round the clock through the police headquarters’ control room, supported by CCTV surveillance installed at various locations.

Officials said the intensified measures would continue as part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order and ensure national security.
