DHAKA, Dec 19, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said there is no alternative to the unity of all anti-anarchy political and social forces to resist elements attempting to destabilize the country.

"We will not allow the country, achieved through so much bloodshed, to be destroyed. We must collectively resist the evil forces," he said at a press conference following a meeting of the BNP Standing Committee with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in the chair.

"At present, unity among all anti-anarchy political and social forces is the only way to foil the conspiracy," Fakhrul said.

Fakhrul said that the same unity which led to the fall of fascism, the formation of an interim government and the move toward national elections must once again be strengthened.

"All patriotic forces need to come together again to protect the country and democracy," he added.

He also expressed deep sorrow over the death of Inquilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, who passed away on Thursday while undergoing treatment in Singapore.

"Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. We strongly condemn this cowardly murder and reiterate our demand for the immediate arrest and trial of those responsible," Fakhrul said.

Referring to incidents that occurred after the news of Hadi's death, Fakhrul said that a group of unruly individuals set fire to the offices of several newspapers, including Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, endangering the lives of journalists.

He also mentioned an attack on New Age editor Nurul Kabir, as well as attacks on cultural institutions such as Chhayanat.

"We strongly condemn and express our deep revulsion at these heinous acts," he said.

Mirza Fakhrul alleged that these incidents indicate a deliberate attempt by a known quarter to push the country toward anarchy.

"They are trying to destroy democratic rights, including voting rights achieved through immense sacrifice, and impose a new form of fascism," he said, adding that these activities are taking place in front of the government, whose response he described as unsatisfactory.

He concluded by saying that such incidents appear to be part of a conspiracy to disrupt the upcoming national election and derail the process of democratic transition, thereby damaging the image of both the government and the country at home and abroad.
