British High Commission celebrates arrival of Commonwealth Games King's Baton in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Dec 17, 2025 (BSS) - The British High Commission in Dhaka today warmly welcomed the arrival of the King's Baton in Bangladesh as part of the lead-up to the Commonwealth Games 2026, scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland.

"Welcoming the King's Baton to Bangladesh is a proud moment that reflects our shared commitment to friendship, unity, and the values of the Commonwealth," said British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke.

She highlighted the strong bonds between Bangladesh and the wider Commonwealth community as preparations continue for the Glasgow 2026 Games.

To mark the occasion, the British High Commissioner hosted a reception attended by distinguished guests from the Government of Bangladesh, the sports community, media, and members of the diplomatic corps.

The reception followed the King's Baton Relay held earlier on December 17 at the Army Stadium. The relay was organised by the Bangladesh Olympic Association, which serves as the official authority for the Commonwealth Games in Bangladesh, according to a press release.

The King's Baton Relay is a longstanding Commonwealth tradition that symbolises unity and shared values among member nations. It connects communities and builds excitement ahead of the Games.

The journey of the Baton to Glasgow 2026 will span more than 500 days, travelling across every corner of the Commonwealth. In a historic first, 74 individual Batons have been created -- one for each Commonwealth nation and territory. Each Baton carries a unique word from His Majesty The King's Message, engraved to reflect the spirit of inclusivity and togetherness.
