DHAKA, Dec 17, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Police has taken special security measures on the occasion of Christmas and Thirty-First Night.

A meeting on security and law and order was held at the Hall of Pride at Police Headquarters this morning.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam chaired the meeting where the police administration discussed preparations for Christmas on December 25 and Thirty-First Night on December 31.

Leaders of the Christian community who attended the meeting expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements and thanked the police administration. 

They expressed hope that, with everyone’s cooperation, Christmas would be celebrated this year in a festive atmosphere with due religious solemnity.

Welcoming the community leaders, the IGP said Christmas is a universal festival and assured that the police will remain alert to ensure peaceful celebrations. 

He expressed confidence that with the capabilities of the Bangladesh Police, both Christmas and Thirty-First Night would be celebrated in a safe and orderly environment.

The meeting decided that the overall security situation would be closely reviewed and necessary measures would be taken during the festive period. 

Authorities warned that strict legal action would be taken against any individual or group attempting to disrupt communal harmony by spreading misleading posts, comments, or images on social media. 

Cyber monitoring will be strengthened to prevent rumors.

People concerned were requested to recruit volunteers, ensure adequate lighting, arrange standby generators or charger lights, and work closely with law enforcement agencies to maintain the security of churches across the country.

Security measures will also be strengthened in major tourist destinations, including Cox’s Bazar and Kuakata, on the occasion of Thirty-First Night. 

Action will be taken against reckless driving, loud honking, and speeding by cars or motorbikes.

The meeting urged the public to contact the National Emergency Service 999 or their respective Beat Police Officers in case of any emergency.

RAB Director General (Additional IGP) AKM Shahidur Rahman, senior officials from Police Headquarters, and leaders of various Christian organizations, including St. Mary’s Cathedral Father Albert Rosario and Bangladesh Christian Association President Nirmal Rosario, attended the meeting online.

All Police Commissioners, Range DIGs, and District Police Superintendents were also connected virtually.
