DHAKA, Dec 15, 2025 (BSS) – Bijoy Boi Mela at the Bangla Academy premises during the Month of Victory drew ample response from readers, writers, and publishers.

Bangladesh Publishers and Book Sellers' Association has organized the fair for the first time, which began from December 10 and will continue till December 22.

Speaking with visitors on the fifth day of the fair, readers said that this initiative should not remain a one-time event; rather, the fair should be held regularly in the future.

The fair has become a unique experience for book lovers. A strong interest has been observed among readers in books on the Liberation War, history, politics, literature, and research. The spontaneous participation of the younger generation has further enhanced the significance of the fair.

According to readers, Bijoy Boi Mela is a timely and necessary addition alongside Amar Ekushey Book Fair in February.

It is not merely a place for buying and selling books; rather, it serves as an effective platform to reconnect readers with the spirit of the Liberation War, the history of victory, and national identity.

Many believe that the fair would get even more enriched in the future if author–reader interactions, discussion sessions, and cultural programs are added.

Young poet and student of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Israfil Akand Rudra, visited the fair. He said, “Bijoy Boi Mela is being held for the first time this year, which is certainly encouraging. Organizing such a fair centred on books during the month of victory should be made regular.”

“This is not just a book-selling event; it is an important medium for conveying our culture, history, and the ideals of the Liberation War to the new generation in a renewed way. Therefore, initiatives must be taken to make the Victory Book Fair permanent in a more beautiful and well-planned manner,” he said.

This year’s Bijoy Boi Mela has a total of 170 stalls, with participation from 140 leading publishing houses of the country. Books are being sold with a 25 percent discount. The fair is open to visitors from 2:30 pm to 9:00 pm on working days and from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm on holidays.
