COX'S BAZAR, Dec 14, 2025 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today said scientific farming of sea bass fish, a common name for a variety of marine fish species, has opened up new possibilities for ensuring food security and strengthening the country's fish supply system.
The adviser made the remarks after visiting a modern greenhouse-based mariculture hatchery in the Kalatali area here.
She said, "I am very happy to see that the entire fish production system is very scientific. As a hatchery, it is playing an important role."
Farida Akhter expressed optimism that such scientific fish farming practices would not remain limited to coastal areas like Cox's Bazar, but could also be implemented in northern regions of the country.
Ultimately, she said, this production method would increase fish output across different parts of Bangladesh and make the national food supply system stronger.
The adviser said the government would extend support in various ways to promote mariculture, while emphasizing that private sector initiatives would be the main driving force behind its expansion.
She noted that greater involvement of private entrepreneurs would contribute to technological development, employment generation and increased scientific fish production.
Describing the initiative as modern and sustainable, Farida Akhter said it would make a significant contribution to Bangladesh's blue economy. She added that it is not only a government vision, but also a practical step toward building a strong foundation for economic growth and national food security.
Officials from the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry, the Department of Fisheries and other concerned departments were present during the visit.
