24th Young Artist Fine Arts Exhibition begins tomorrow

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2025 (BSS) - The '24th Young Artist Fine Arts Exhibition 2025' will begin tomorrow at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki will inaugurate the exhibition at 4 pm. The exhibition will run from 11 am to 8 pm daily. The 12-day exhibition will be held at galleries 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 of the National Art Gallery.

Artist Professor Dr Abdus Sattar and Professor Mostafizul Haque will be special guests at the inaugural ceremony. Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, poet and cultural figure Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed (Rezauddin Stalin) will preside it.

This information was informed at a press conference organized at Shilpakala Academy today on the occasion of the exhibition.

In the press conference, the speakers said that the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy's 'Nabin Shilpi Charukala Exhibition' is a regular national event in the field of fine arts. Its journey began in 1975. Many artists have gained recognition through this exhibition, and later have won awards and recognition at home and abroad, they said.

Shilpakala Academy Secretary Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Fine Arts Department Director Abdul Halim Chanchal and officials from various departments were also present at the press conference. 

Artist Zainul Abedin and painter Patua Kamrul Hasan were present as guests at the first Young Artist Fine Arts Exhibition.

This year, a total of 1,393 artworks were submitted by young artists aged between 21 and 35. 

The selection committee selected 215 artworks by 191 artists for the exhibition. Almost all mediums including painting, sculpture, oriental art, crafts, pottery, photography, installation art, performance art, new media art have been included in this exhibition.

The members of the selection committee were artist Professor Naima Haque (Dhaka University), artist Tarun Ghosh, artist Dr. Mohammad Ali (Dean, Department of Fine Arts, Rajshahi University), artist Ajmir Hossain and artist Asmita Alam Shammi (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Fine Arts, Dhaka University).

This year's exhibition has added two specially curated art presentations. Like every year, this time too, eight universities from Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Jahangirnagar, Khulna, Jagannath, National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology and Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA) have presented their curated shows.

A new addition this year is a curated presentation by 12 invited young artists titled ‘Rupantor’ (Transformation).

A total of ten artworks will be nominated for the award from among the 191 selected artists. 

The winner of the 'Nabin Shilpi Charukla Puraskar 2025' will receive Taka two lakh and a gold-coated medal. The second prize is Taka 1.50 lakh and the third prize is Taka one lakh. 

Each of the seven honorary awards is worth Taka 75,000. Although there are five honorary awards as per the rules, two more have been added on the recommendation of the judges and with the consent of the Director General.

The president of the Judicial Committee was Professor Mostafizul Haque. The members were artist Reza Asad Al Huda Anupam, prominent artists Anisuzzaman Sohel and Yasmin Jahan Nupur, and artist Imam Hossain Sumon (Jagannath University).

It was informed at the press conference that although international standard curated presentations are practiced worldwide, this is being done for the first time at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. 

Manjur Ahmed has served as the curator. Under his leadership, three more have served as assistant curators.
