KU to celebrate University Day tomorrow

KHULNA, Nov 24, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna University (KU) will observe its University Day tomorrow, marking 34 years of academic activities as it steps into its 35th year.

The establishment of KU is rooted in the long-standing efforts and sacrifices of the people of the south-western region.

Over the decades, the university has built a reputation for a peaceful academic atmosphere, quality teaching, strong research output, international collaboration and a commitment to human values.

Today, KU stands as a major higher education institution in the coastal belt and a reflection of Bangladesh's advancement in tertiary education and research.

Following the post-uprising crisis of July-August 2024, the present administration led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rezaul Karim assumed responsibility. Since then, it has taken measures to restore stability, ensure uninterrupted academic activities, strengthen research and modernise administrative operations.

Key initiatives include the nationwide introduction of Teaching Assistants across all disciplines, the submission of accreditation Intent to Apply documents to enhance academic standards, the launch of undergraduate research grants for the first time, financial incentives for international journal publications and the country's first collaborative research grant programme among public universities to foster industry-academia partnerships.

Greeting teachers, students, officers, staff, guardians, alumni and residents of Khulna on the occasion of KU Day 2025, the VC said the university's achievements are a matter of pride for all.

He noted that the support and cooperation of the university community and the people of Khulna have been central to KU's progress.

Looking ahead, he said KU aims to grow as a centre of knowledge driven by innovation, humanity, creativity and responsibility.

"In a changing world, the creativity and moral vision of our young generation will shape the Bangladesh of tomorrow, and Khulna University will continue to guide that journey," he added.

A series of programmes has been arranged to celebrate University Day. These include a colourful rally at 10 am, the main ceremony at 11 am at the Journalist Liaquat Ali Auditorium, followed by recognition of outstanding students and organisations.

Display boards will be set up at Adommo Bangla Plaza highlighting departmental achievements and plans. Special prayers will be held after Zuhr, with offerings at the temple. Cultural performances will take place at the open stage from 6 pm to 9 pm.

The campus gates, roads, buildings, halls and other installations have been illuminated with decorative lighting to mark the occasion.
