SYLHET, Nov 23, 2025 (BSS) - Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen today said former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina concealed information of land in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission (EC) ahead of the 2008 elections.
“Sheikh Hasina showed 5.2 acres of agricultural land in her 2008 election affidavit, but the commission’s investigation found a total of 29 acres of land,” he said while responding to questions of journalists after laying the foundation stone of the ACC’s divisional office building at South Surma’s Alampur area here.
Although the ACC worked on the matter, it could not implement the cancellation of her nomination at that time, he added.
Responding to a question Dr Momen said there is no pressure regarding the ACC’s work but it has various limitations.
He said that honest people must be elected regardless of party affiliation, which party someone belongs to is not important, important is whether the person is honest or not.
The ACC Chairman said candidates for election must declare both domestic and foreign sources of income in their affidavits. If anyone conceals any information, the media should uncover it to present to the nation, he added.
The ACC is not a judicial body, its responsibility is to present evidence and information to the courts and the court concerned is responsible to deliver judgments.
Later, he took part in an ACC public hearing held at the Kazi Nazrul Auditorium in Sylhet.
