Canada seeks stronger trade, investment ties with Bangladesh

DHAKA, Nov 23, 2025 (BSS) - Canada's Senior Assistant Deputy Minister for International Trade and Chief Trade Commissioner Sara Wilshaw has begun her first official visit to Bangladesh, focusing on expanding economic growth and new trade opportunities between the two countries.

According Canadian High Commission in Dhaka, Wilshaw, who leads a global team supporting Canadian businesses in securing and growing international markets, will meet senior government officials, major private-sector trade bodies, and leading corporations during her visit.

Her engagements will prioritise new areas of collaboration in agriculture, clean technology, and investment, alongside discussions on better leveraging Canada's longstanding development assistance to Bangladesh, which has exceeded $6.3 billion since independence.

The High Commission noted that bilateral trade reached USD 3.27 billion (approximately Tk 27,537 crore) in 2024, marking a pivotal moment for advancing economic partnership. 

Canada reaffirmed its commitment as a reliable partner in Bangladesh's journey toward LDC graduation, shared prosperity, and democratic governance said the high commission today.
