DHAKA, Oct 27, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said the Commonwealth will send observers to oversee the upcoming national parliamentary election in Bangladesh.
"There has been a discussion about sending observers during the election. They have decided to send observers for the election," he said while talking to media after a meeting with the Commonwealth delegation at Hotel Serina in Banani this evening.
Mentioning that the discussion covered the process of the upcoming election and all related matters, Khasru said, "They wanted to know what the process will be, primarily the process of returning to a democratic order through the election, and how impartially we are progressing. In addition to this, various issues including the process of the next national election were discussed."
Referring to the law and order situation during the election, he said, "The Election Commission, in fact, will have scope to take decisions regarding all election-related matters during the election time. In reality, all decisions related to the election must remain within the purview of the Election Commission, which must be made in light of the commission's opinion and its decisions."
Referring to the discussion about the "July Charter," he added, "Everyone supports the July Charter, but the notes of dissent or disagreements of parties on various issues will be on the website, and the public will know about them. And those who come to the next parliament with a mandate will certainly implement the areas where consensus has been reached. And beyond that, where there are notes of dissent, the party that comes to power will implement those in its own way."
The visiting Commonwealth delegation was led by Linford Andrews, Adviser to the Commonwealth 'Electoral Support' Branch and Head of 'Pre-Election Assessment'.
BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Chairperson's Advisory Council member Dr. Ziauddin Haidar, Joint Secretary General Humayun Kabir and Organizing Secretary Shama Obaed were present at the meeting.
