NLASO provides free legal aid to 29,791 people

DHAKA, Oct 27, 2025 (BSS) – Legal assistance has been provided to 29,791 persons through the Supreme Court Legal Aid office under the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO).

This information was revealed in a report published on the NLASO website.

The report also highlighted detailed information on the legal assistance provided by the legal aid program from 2009 until September 2025.

The organization gave legal assistance in a total of 443,798 cases of poor litigants during this period, according to the report, adding that legal assistance has been provided to a total of 1,303,643 persons under the services with government expenditure.

Of them, legal assistance has been provided to 29,791 poor persons by the Supreme Court Legal Aid, 1,052,686 persons by the legal aid offices of 64 districts, and 29,673 persons by the Dhaka and Chittagong labour law aid cells, the report added.

In addition, 191,493 poor persons also received legal assistance under government expenditure through the National Help Line Call Centre (toll-free 16430).

Initially, this service started at the district level. Later, it was expanded through the formation of workers' legal aid cells, the establishment of the Supreme Court Legal Aid, services for prisoners, and the helpline call center.

These services are provided at government expense under the 'Legal Aid Act' with the aim of assisting financially indigent and legally incompetent people seeking justice in the country.

The activities of the National Legal Aid Organization are carried out under the Law and Justice Department of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.
