DHAKA, October 26, 2025 (BSS) – National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor Professor A S M Amanullah today stressed the need for developing a skilful manpower through providing technical and time-befitting knowledge to cope with the future challenges.
“Bangladesh owns a major portion of the Bay of Bengal which contains enormous marine wealth. Due to our inefficiency and technical lag, we could not extract that wealth instead we have to take assistance from foreign resources to extract our wealth. We must have to develop a technically skilful manpower to meet such challenges,” the VC said.
He was addressing a seminar titled ‘Blue Economy Growth Initiatives in Bangladesh’ held at the Bangladesh Maritime University here.
Maritime Tourism and Hospitality Management Department of Bangladesh Maritime University and NU Innovation and Sustainability Lab jointly organized the seminar.
Head of the Department of Maritime Tourism and Hospitality Management department Dr. Md Saiful Islam delivered the welcome address and Bangladesh Maritime University Vice Chancellor Rear Admiral Dr. Khandaker Akhter Hossain spoke as the chief guest.
Prof. Amanullah said institutions like Bangladesh Maritime University should come forward to create opportunities for education in various professional subjects including maritime, tourism and aviation sectors.
“NU wants to work jointly with educational institutions like Maritime University to bring these professional courses to the youth of the country,” he added.
Delivering the chief guest’s speech, Prof. Khandaker Akhtar Hossain said, “Bangladesh Maritime University wants to work jointly with the country's largest public university, the National University, to create skilled manpower.
“The two universities may sign a memorandum of understanding for this purpose,” he added.
Several papers and articles were presented at the seminar on Blue Economy and related issues.
