DHAKA, Oct 26, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh and the United States have reaffirmed their shared commitment to maintaining close coordination and working together with the Maldivian government to advance mutual priorities and promote a stable and inclusive regional environment.

The pledge came as Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam paid a courtesy call on US Ambassador to the Maldives Hugo Yon in Male today, according to a message received here.  

During the meeting, the two diplomats held cordial and constructive discussions on strengthening bilateral and trilateral cooperation among Bangladesh, the United States, and the Maldives.

They exchanged views on a broad range of issues of mutual interest, including regional peace, security, and prosperity.

The discussions placed particular emphasis on enhancing collaboration with the Maldivian government to combat human trafficking and promote safe, orderly, and regular labour migration  with special attention to ensuring the welfare of Bangladeshi expatriate workers in the island nation.

Both sides also explored prospects for joint capacity-building initiatives aligned with the Maldives’ national development goals, aimed at fostering inclusive economic growth and human resource development.

The two ambassadors expressed optimism that continued cooperation among Bangladesh, the US, and the Maldives would further strengthen shared objectives for a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Indian Ocean region.
