DHAKA, Oct 22, 2025 (BSS) – A seminar titled 'Regional Geopolitical Landscape: Impacts on the Security Dynamics of Bangladesh and Ways Forward' was held at the auditorium of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) here today.
The Armed Forces Division (AFD) and BIISS jointly organized the seminar, according to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release.
Shipping, and Labour and Employment Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hussain attended it as the chief guest.
Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hassan, was present as the special guest.
Diplomats, ambassadors, military attachés, senior military officers, officials from various ministries and media representatives participated in the seminar.
BIISS Director General Major General Iftekhar Anis delivered the welcome address.
Adviser Dr M Sakhawat Hussain highlighted Bangladesh’s recent geopolitical context, regional developments, and the Rohingya issue.
He stressed that no country can ensure national security without regional stability and cooperation, and called for balanced, interest-based relations with all nations.
Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hassan discussed the complexities of the current geopolitical landscape and emphasized the need for strategic clarity, visionary policymaking and the development of a defense industry.
The keynote paper was presented by Professor Dr. A. S. M. Ali Ashraf, Chairman, Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka.
Professors Dr. Niloy Ranjan Biswas and Dr. Shahab Enam Khan participated as panel discussants.
Former ambassador and President of the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute M Humayun Kabir moderated the session.
Captain Shafiul Muznibin of the Armed Forces Division conducted the seminar.
Speakers discussed Bangladesh’s security, foreign policy and regional geopolitical priorities, stressing the significance of regional cooperation, diplomatic balance, defense capability, and strategies against non-traditional security threats.
The seminar is expected to aid in safeguarding national interests and formulating a pragmatic and effective strategy aligned with global changes.
