RANGPUR, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS) - The 17th founding anniversary of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) will be celebrated tomorrow on the campus.
To mark the day, the BRUR authorities chalked out a series of programmes.
Rangpur University Implementation Coordination Council Convener Prof Dr Rezaul Haq will inaugurate the celebration by hoisting the national flag and the university flag with rendition of the national anthem at 9:30 am.
Economist Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, former adviser to the caretaker government, BRAC Chairperson and Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC) Executive Chairman, will be present as the chief guest at the programme.
The programmes include releasing balloons with a festoon and bringing out a colourful 'Ananda Shovayatra' at 10:00am. Vice Chancellor, teachers, students, officials and employees of the university will attend the procession.
Later, a cake-cutting ceremony will be held at 10:30am followed by a reception to the injured students of the university in the July Uprising and a discussion at 10:40 am.
Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman will attend the discussion as the chief guest with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Showkat Ali in the chair.
Founding BRUR Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Lutfar Rahman will address the event as the keynote discussant.
Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Enamullah, Kurigram Agriculture University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rashedul Islam and Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam will address as special guests.
Later in the afternoon, different sports competitions will be arranged for the students, teachers, officers and employees of different departments of the university at 4 pm on the campus.
A milad mahfil will be arranged at the central mosque of the university after Asr prayers at 5 pm followed by a cultural event at 6:15 pm.
Meanwhile, the university buildings and other installations have been illuminated and decorated colourfully.
Talking to BSS, Prof Md Showkat Ali said all preparations have been completed to celebrate the university's 17th founding anniversary upholding the spirit of the July Uprising tomorrow.
