DHAKA, Oct 7, 2025 (BSS) - Dhamrai police has arrested five leaders and activists of Awami League and its front organizations, including a former upazila chairman from Nabinagar area, for their alleged involvement in mass killing in Ashulia during the last year’s mass uprising.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhamrai Thana Monirul Islam said that police arrested them from a residential area at Nabinagar during a raid at about 10.30pm on Monday.
The arrestees are Mohaddesh Hossain, former organizing secretary of Dhamrai upazila Awami League (AL) and chairman of Dhamrai Upazila Parishad, Sanaul Haque Sujon, general secretary of Dhamrai Poura AL and former member of Dhaka District Council, Moshiur Rahman, former chairman of Dhamrai sadar union, Aminul Islam, president of recently banned Chhatra League Nabojug college unit and Chhatra League worker Ahad Hossain.
According to the police, Afiqul Islam Sad, a student of a college of the area received bullet injuries in front of Dhamrai Harding Government School and College in the morning of August 5 last year when he joined the mass uprising. He was taken to Savar Enam Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on August 8.
Azim Uddin, grandfather of Sad, on August 21 filed a case with Dhamrai Thana mentioning the names of 82 leaders and workers of Awami League including the former lawmaker of the constituency Benzir Ahmed for the killing. The arrested people are the accused in the case and went into hiding after August 5 last year, police said.
All the arrested people were sent to the court for taking further lawful measures, police added.
