DHAKA, Oct 7, 2025 (BSS) - Three monitoring teams of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, along with law enforcement agencies, carried out a special drive today to enforce the ban on single-use plastics (SUP) at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The drive began at around 9:00 am at gates-2 and 5 of the secretariat, said a press release here.
During the drive, any banned polythene or SUP items found with officials, employees, or visitors entering the secretariat were confiscated.
As an alternative, eco-friendly fabric bags were distributed among them. At the same time, strict instructions were issued not to carry SUP inside the secretariat in future.
In addition to the monitoring teams, law enforcers were deployed at all entry points of the secretariat to prevent anyone from bringing SUPs inside. Visitors and staff were also made aware of the harmful impacts of SUP and were encouraged to adopt sustainable and environment-friendly alternatives.
The ministry emphasized that this operation at the secretariat marks only the beginning of the enforcement initiative. Step by step, the ban will be expanded to other government offices across the country. This effort is aimed at reducing plastic pollution, safeguarding the environment, and promoting a sustainable lifestyle.
