NARAYANGANJ, Sept 25, 2025 (BSS) - Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) will be administered to 8 lakh 10 thousand children in the district under the government's Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI).
This information was disclosed during a day-long workshop with journalists to create awareness about typhoid vaccination in the district.
The workshop was held at Narayanganj Press Club on Wednesday, organized by the District Information Office.
Narayanganj Civil Surgeon Dr AFM Mashiur Rahman was present as the chief guest at the workshop with District Information Officer Mohammad Kamruzzaman in the chair.
Deputy Director of the Department of Mass Communication Fahima Jahan, Deputy Director of the District Family Planning Department Shahidul Islam, President of Narayanganj Press Club Abu Saud Masud and General Secretary Afzal Hossain Ponty were present, among others.
According to a health survey in 2019, about 4,78,000 people were infected with typhoid in Bangladesh. 8,000 people died. Of these, 68 percent were children.
Therefore, under the government's Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), 810,000 children in Narayanganj will be given Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV). Out of which, 216,146 are in the City Corporation. Outside the City Corporation, 593,646 children will be vaccinated in the entire district.
For vaccination, registration will have to be done through the website (https://vaxepi.gov.bd) using the 17-digit birth certificate number.
Civil Surgeon Dr AFM Mashiur Rahman said that a target of vaccinating about five crore children across the country has been set. Typhoid vaccination will start in Narayanganj from October 12, like the rest of the country. Vaccination will be given in 2,167 schools in the district and there are 1,056 temporary vaccination centers. Vaccination at these centers will be conducted in two phases over 18 days.
