DHAKA, Nov 30, 2021 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan 
Mahmud today expressed profound and deep shock at the death of National 
Professor and noted scholar Rafiqul Islam.
 
   In a condolence message, the minister said the country has lost an eminent 
educationalist, a linguist and noted scholar at the death of the country’s 
first distinguished researcher on National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and the 
first Nazrul Professor of Dhaka University Professor Rafiqul Islam.

   He said Professor Rafiqul, who was the recipient of both Swadhinata Padak 
and Ekushey Padak, will ever be remembered as a unique example in the mind of 
people.

  Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, prayed for eternal peace 
of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

   Professor Rafiqul died in the city's Evercare Hospital around 2:30 pm 
while undergoing treatment with multiple complications. He was 87.

   He was the President of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur 
Rahman's Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee. 

   Professor Rafiqul was also the current President of Bangla Academy.
