Govt. publishes Junior Scholarship exams

DHAKA, Sept 3, 2025 (BSS)- Directorate of the Secondary and Higher Education under the Ministry of Education today announced the Junior Scholarship Exams Policy 2025 allowing maximum 25 percent students of Class VIII of a school to attend in the exam.

Under the policy the Junior Scholarship Exams will be taken in four subjects- Bengali, English, Math, Science, and Bangladesh and Global Studies. 

Bengali, English, Math exams will be of 100 marks while Science and Bangladesh and Global Studies will be of 50 marks each.

Candidates for junior scholarship exam will be selected evaluating one’s total result in Class VII, according to the policy.

The National Steering committee can change the number of student time to time, according to the policy.

Each exam would he held for three hours except 30 minutes extra time for the students of special needs.

Successful students will get scholarship in two categories- talent pool and general. In both categories 50 percent scholarship will go for males and 50 percent for females.

If qualified students are unavailable to fulfill the quota, the vacancies will be covered on the merit of the students irrespective of their gender.

The junior scholarship exam will be held as per the syllabus of the Class VIII text books compiled by National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB).

A student transferred in Class VIII from another school can take part in the scholarship exams and his/her merit score in previous school will be considered for being qualified for the junior scholarship exam.

Departmental action will be taken against the head teacher if he allows a student of another school to appear in the exam. In that case the entry and the result of the particular student will be cancelled, the policy said.
