DHAKA, Aug 31, 2025 (BSS) – Jamaat-e-Islami has raised no objections to the upcoming national election scheduled for February but has strongly called for the adoption of a Proportional Representation (PR) system to ensure a level playing field.
Speaking to reporters after a high-level meeting at the state residence Jamuna this afternoon, Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher said, “Discrimination is being created by giving priority to one party. This remains the biggest obstacle to a level playing field, and it must be resolved before the election.”
The meeting, held at 4:30 pm, was attended by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, Industry Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, and National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman, among others.
Dr. Taher led the Jamaat delegation, which included Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar, and Assistant Secretaries General Rafiqul Islam Khan and Dr. Hamidur Rahman Azad.
Dr. Taher remarked that initiating the election process without finalizing the July Charter was a mistake.
He noted that 25 parties have expressed support for the PR system, which he said reflects the will of the majority.
Highlighting assurances made by the Chief Adviser, Dr. Taher said, “He has committed to reforms in several areas, visible justice, and a world-class election.”
Dr. Taher emphasized that every political party must play a constructive role in ensuring a free, fair, and inclusive election.
