DHAKA, Aug 30, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers, at an event here, said that those who lecture on human rights around the world are supporting human rights violations by Israeli forces in Gaza, Palestine.
They said this while participating in the 'Bengal Delta Conference 2025' organized today at the Intercontinental Hotel in the capital.
Ibn Haldun University Professor Dr Irfan Ahmad said that the Western concept of human rights is not working in Gaza.
"It is not that they are betraying Gaza; rather, they do not hesitate to violate human rights if it goes against their interests," he added.
Former Malaysian Education Minister Professor Dr Maszlee Bin Malik said that what is happening in Gaza is undoubtedly a human rights violation.
However, those who repeatedly give messages to the world about human rights, they seem unable to see the situation in Gaza, he said.
The speakers also opined that the silence of powerful countries on Gaza is the dark side of the modern world.
Dhaka University Assistant Professor Dr Shafi Md Mostafa moderated the discussion titled 'Modernity and Religion: Interaction and Contestation'.
Lahore University Assistant Professor Dr.Maryam Wasif Khan, Arizona State University Teacher Dr Yasmin Saikia, Kyung Hee University Professor Dr Alex Taek-Gwang Lee and Jahangirnagar University Professor Dr Syed Nizar also addressed it.
