Two bills placed in parliament

DHAKA, Nov 27, 2021 (BSS) - Two bills were placed in parliament today with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury presiding the session.

The two bills are: Bangladesh Supreme Court Judges (Prizes and Privileges) Bill 2021 and Bangladesh Supreme Court Judge (Travel Allowance) Bill, 2021.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haq placed the bills.

Bangladesh Supreme Court Judges (Prizes and Privileges) Bill 2021 was proposed to enact a new law after annulling the existing ordinance in this connection.

The bill proposes to fix the monthly salary of the chief justice of the Supreme Court at Taka 1.10 lakh while the Appellate Division judge at Tk 1.05 lakh and that of the High Court judge at Tk 95,000.

Besides, in the proposed bill, provision was kept with 50 percent house rent of one’s basic salary and to provide one month of recreation leave with one month salary in every 3 years, two festival allowances per year, 20 percent Bangla New Year (Boishakhi)’s allowance and other benefits.

The Bangladesh Supreme Court Judges (Travel Allowance) Bill proposes to provide travel allowance to judges at a fixed rate.

The House sent the two bills to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry for scrutiny and report back to parliament.
