DHAKA, Aug 5, 2025 (BSS) – The July Uprising Day was observed across the country through various programmes to honour the martyrs and injured of the July Mass Uprising and recall the day that marks the downfall of autocratic ruler Sheikh Hasina.
In Rajshahi, the day was observed with due solemnity and respect, paying tribute to the martyrs and expressing solidarity with the injured.
As part of the observance, the district administration inaugurated the 'July Shaheed Memorial Plaque' at the C&B crossing in the city, commemorating those who laid down their lives during the historic uprising. A large number of government officials, students, development activists and professionals from cultural and social spheres also paid their respects.
Later, they visited the graves of the martyrs and offered prayers, seeking eternal peace of the departed souls. To mark the occasion, a children's fine arts competition, documentary screening and a special doa mahfil were held at the Rajshahi Shilpakala Academy.
A memorial meeting was also organized at the same venue, where speakers highlighted the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs and underscored the enduring significance of the anti-discrimination student movement.
In Cumilla, the July Uprising Day was observed in the district through various programmes organized by the district administration and different political and socio-cultural organizations.
Marking the day, the district administration arranged discussion meetings, receptions for martyr families and July fighters, cultural events, and a victory rally.
The day's programmes began this morning with paying tribute to martyr Masum Miah by placing wreaths on his grave in the city's North Rampur area.
Later, a discussion and reception programme for the families of martyrs and July fighters was held at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
Deputy Commissioner Md Amirul Kaysar presided over the function. It was addressed, among others, by Cumilla Police Superintendent Nazir Ahmed Khan, BNP Chairperson's Advisor Amin Ur Rashid Yasin, Cumilla Metropolitan BNP President Udbatul Bari Abu, Cumilla Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Kazi Din Mohammad, and leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
At the end of the event, the families of the martyrs and July fighters were honoured.
A cultural programme followed with performances by local artistes was held.
Earlier in the morning, Cumilla Metropolitan Unit Chhatra Shibir brought out a colourful victory rally.
The rally paraded different streets of the city and ended at Pubali Chattar.
Cumilla Metropolitan Chhatra Shibir President Hasan Ahmed, Secretary Nazmul Panchayat, Organizational Secretary Aqib Abdullah, and Victoria College Branch Chhatra Shibir President Monir Hossain, among others, spoke at the event.
In the afternoon, various organizations including district and metropolitan units of BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Sramik Dal also held discussion meetings and brought out victory rallies.
In Tangail, Ghatail Upazila administration paid homage today at the grave of martyr Hafez Sadiq at Karimganj Ghona Para graveyard of the upazila, commemorating the anniversary of the mass uprising.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Abu Sayeed led the tribute by placing a floral wreath on Sadiq's grave this morning.
Officer-in-Charge of Ghatail Police Station Md. Mir Mosharraf Hossain, Upazila Livestock Officer Bahauddin Sarwar Rizvi and others were present at the time.
Hafez Sadiq, a resident of Karimganj Ghona Para village in Sagardighi Union, Ghatail Upazila, joined a protest march with his classmates on the road after Friday prayers on July 19, 2024. He was fatally shot during police firing at the protest.
In Thakurgaon, the day was observed in the district in a befitting manner.
A special gathering of frontline fighters who participated in the July 2024 mass uprising was held in the district Shilpakala Academy Hall room this afternoon.
Deputy Commissioner Ishrat Farzana was present as the chief guest at the event. Superintendent of Police Sheikh Zahidul Islam was present as the special guest.
In addition, July Movement fighters, political leaders, and dignitaries from different areas participated in the event.
At the beginning of the event, participants were greeted with flowers.
Speakers said the July Uprising was a historic public awakening against injustice, corruption, and dictatorship that began with the quota reform movement. The courageous role of the students at that time gave a strong foundation to this movement.
They also said that the current generation needs to be informed about the history of this movement so that they can be aware and determined in favor of democracy and justice.
In Manikganj, the day was observed in the district with due solemnity and respect, paying tribute to the martyrs and expressing solidarity with the injured.
The district administration organized various programmes to mark the occasion, beginning with placing of floral wreaths and offering prayers at the grave of Martyred Rafiqul Islam in Rupsha village under Shibalaya upazila.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Manwar Hossein Malla and Superintendent of Police Yasmin Khatun, accompanied by the martyr's father Md. Rahij Uddin, led the wreath-laying ceremony.
Later, government officials, representatives of different organizations, students and people from all walks of life also placed wreaths.
Among them were Manikganj Press Club President Zahangir Alam Biswas, General Secretary Shahanur Islam, Power Grid Executive Engineer Dewan Giash Uddin Mahmud, LGED Executive Engineer Md. Khorshed Alam, Roads and Highways Executive Engineer Shahriar Alam, Shibalaya UNO Md. Zakir Hossain, BNP district leader Satyen Pandit, Shibalaya BNP General Secretary Mizanur Rahman, and Jamaat Shibalaya Upazila Amir Md. Hatem Ali.
Later in the day, gifts provided by the July Martyred Memorial Foundation were distributed among the families of the martyrs and the injured at a function held at the Manikganj District Shilpakala Academy.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Manwar Hossein Malla attended the event as chief guest and handed over the gifts.
Relatives of several martyrs, including Md. Rahij Uddin (father of Martyred Rafiqul Islam), Bahadur Khan (father of Martyred Sad Mahmud Khan), Taslina Khatun (mother of Martyred Mohi Uddin), Shafiqul Islam (brother of Martyred Afiqul Islam), and Nasir Uddin (father of Martyred Shafiq Uddin), addressed the gathering.
They demanded the swift trial of those responsible for the killings and justice for the victims.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mohammad Atiqul Mamun, ADC (Revenue) Mohammad Ali, Jamaat Central Committee leader Maulana Delwar Hossain, District Jamaat Amir Hafej Quamrul Islam and July Uprising fighter Hasna Hena, among others, were present at the event.
In Jamalpur, the July Uprising Day was observed through various programmes in the district.
District Administration and Upazila Administration separately paid tribute to the July martyrs by placing floral wreath on their graves.
Deputy Commissioner Hasina Begum flanked by Superintendent of Police, Syed Rafiqul Islam, Civil Surgeon, Dr Mohammad Azizul Haque and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jinnat Shahid Pinki placed floral wreath on the grave of martyr Safwan Akhtar Sadya at Godashimla village in Sadar Upazila.
Later, family members of martyrs, injured persons and July heroes joined a gathering.
Deputy Commissioner Hasina Begum, Superintendent of Police, Syed Rafiqul Islam, Civil Surgeon, Dr Mohammad Azizul Haque, General Secretary of District BNP Advocate Shah Md Wares Ali Mamun, July’s heroes- Ekhlas, Ankhi and Diya, among others, spoke at the meeting.
In Gaibandha, July Uprising day was celebrated in the district with due respect.
Marking the day, district and upazila administrations here chalked out elaborate programs.
In the morning around 10 am, a floral wreath was placed on the grave of martyr Suzon at Farazipara area under Kholahati union of Sadar upazila.
Sadar UNO Mahmud Al- Hasan placed the floral wreath at the grave on behalf of the district administration. Later, a munajat was also offered seeking blessing of Almighty Allah for Shaheed Suzon.
Speaking on the occasion thge UNO said “We would never forget the injured and the martyr of the July Uprising. The sacrifice of the July fighters would not go in vain.”
In Bagerhat, the day was observed in the district with due solemnity and respect, paying tribute to the martyrs and expressing solidarity with the injured.
The district administration today paid tribute at the grave of martyr Alif Ahmed Siam at Basbaria Kasimpur village under Dema Union in Sadar upazila of the district, marking the July Uprising Day.
Floral wreaths were placed on the grave of Alif in honor of his sacrifice.
Alif Ahmed was killed in a brutal shooting by the murderous forces of the fascist Hasina regime in Dhaka on August 5, 2024.
Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Kamrul Hasan, Superintendent of Police Md Touhidul Arif, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer SM Mostafizur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Bagerhat Model Police Station Mahmudul Hasan, and other senior officials of the district administration paid tribute by laying wreaths on the grave of martyr Alif.
Alif Ahmed Siam was a 10th-grade science student at Dhaka Dairy Farm High School. He was known as a bright and talented student, who dreamed of becoming a pilot and travelling the world.
He participated in the 'March to Dhaka' on August 5 and was shot in the head near the foot-over bridge at the Savar Police Station bus stand.
Besides, the day was observed with due solemnity and respect, paying tribute to the martyrs and expressing solidarity with the injured in Naogaon, Netrakona, Sunamganj, Panchagarh, Kishoreganj, Patuakhali, Chuadanga, Pirojpur, Chandpur, Sirajganj, Khagrachhari, Sherpur, Nilphamari, Bhola, Chapai Nawabganj, Satkhira, Lakshmipur, Meherpur, Gopalganj, Natore, Narayanganj, Bandarban, Sylhet, Habiganj, Rangamati, Gazipur, Joypurhat, Barishal, Kishoreganj, Feni, Mymensingh, Magura, Bogura, Narail, Noakhali, Rajbari, Chuadanga, Munshiganj and Narsingdi districts.
