DHAKA, Aug 1, 2025 (BSS) – Speakers at a function here today underscored the need for making joint efforts to uphold the independence gained through the struggle of the July Uprising.
They said this at the function featuring discussion and reminiscence on the memory of July Uprising with the participation of writers, artistes, teachers and journalists of the Cultural Front at the Zahid Hasan Auditorium of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro this afternoon.
The speakers said that various activities in the cultural arena, including voting rights and freedom of expression during Sheikh Hasina's long rule, have had a profound impact on the July Movement.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Mahbub Morshed attended the event which moderated writer Salauddin Shuvra.
Mahbub Morshed in his speech said in contrast to the Awami fascist writers and cultural circles, writers and representatives of civil society who believe in democratic social system must remain united.
"During the past fascist regime, we have seen that Sheikh Hasina prolonged her power with the cooperation of many in civil society. If we are not united, we will not be able to build the state system for which we fought against fascism in the past," he said.
Writer and organizer Nahid Hasan, novelist and journalist Ehsan Mahmud, human rights activist Rezaur Rahman Lenin, researcher Dipayan Khisa, poet Ferdous Ara Rumi, activist Baki Billah, Mashiul Alam, NCP leader Ariful Islam (Adib), activist Abdul Majid Antar, journalists Poliar Wahid, publisher saeed bari and Masud Zakaria also spoke.
A documentary titled "Road to July," on the anti-fascist movement initiated by writers, artists, teachers, and journalists from 2018 to July 2024 was screened in the event.
