DHAKA, July 28, 2025 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana today called upon all to discharge responsibilities with honesty, neutrality, and courage to repay the debt of July uprising martyrs.
"In 2024, our children laid the foundation for a new Bangladesh by sacrificing their fresh blood. To repay the debt of their sacrifice, all of us must carry out our responsibilities with honesty, neutrality, and courage," she said.
The Secretary made this remark while speaking as a special guest at a discussion and prayer session organized by the Mass Communication Department at the auditorium of the Information Building in the capital, marking the anniversary of the July Mass Uprising.
She said, "We have passed through a dark chapter of 15 years, during which freedom of speech, the right to movement, and the scope for expression were significantly restricted. From that state, our children brought change for the country with their own blood. We must repay this debt."
Mahbuba Farjana further said, "Let us not forget their sacrifice. Every action we take, every step we make must be guided by honesty, competence, and a sense of responsibility. Before us lies the enormous task of building a developed Bangladesh. Through our collective efforts, we must transform this country into a nation full of possibilities."
With Director General of Mass Communication Department, Faizul Haque in the chair, Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council Justice AKM Abdul Hakim also spoke at the event.
Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Mahbub Morshed, Principal Information Officer Md. Nizamul Kabir, Director General of Bangladesh Television (BTV) Md. Mahbubul Alam, Director General of the Department of Films and Publications Khaleda Begum, Managing Director of the Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Muhammad Abdullah, Director General of Bangladesh Betar ASM Zahid, Director General of the National Institute of Mass Communication Muhammad Hiruzzaman, Director General of the Bangladesh Film Archive Md. Abdul Jalil, and Chief Executive of the Bangladesh Cinema and Television Institute Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin, among others, also present.
Faizul Haque said, "In 2024, students and the general public gifted the nation a new Bangladesh by shedding their fresh blood. Their sacrifice will be written in golden letters in the pages of history. They awakened the nation's conscience and laid a strong foundation for the dream of a society free from inequality and exploitation. The entire nation is now moving forward to realize that dream."
Following the discussion, a prayer and munajat were offered, seeking eternal peace for those killed and a swift recovery for the injured in the July Mass Uprising.
