DHAKA, July 27, 2025 (BSS) - Education Adviser Professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar today said the education is a tool to eliminate inequality from the society.
“Education is a tool to eliminate inequality…There is no alternative to education in establishing an equality-based society,” he told a written statement thanking 267 teachers for their contribution to help revise school textbooks.
Noting that textbooks are the basic foundation for students to acquire knowledge, Professor Dr Chowdhury said, “A correct, up-to-date and education-friendly textbooks can play an important role not only in improving the quality education but also in building a progressive society.”
In his written message to the teachers, he said the active participation of the subject-based experts and teachers concerned in improving the accuracy of the content, using lucid language and maintaining standard presentation of the textbooks prepared by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) is highly commendable.
The Adviser told the teachers that maintaining standard quality in the textbooks is not only limited to NCTB’s own manpower, but also the country’s teachers involved in this effort.
Terming the teachers as the biggest ‘stakeholders’ in education, Prof Abrar said an opportunity to provide information online through e-mail is also reflected the well-thought-out opinions among large stakeholders across the country.
In the message, the education adviser further said, “I consider this continuous effort of yours’ (teachers) as a shining example of your leadership in building a knowledge-based society.”
He hoped that you would continue to support the authorities concerned regarding this noble endeavor in the days to come and make constructive contributions to formulate time-befitting student-centered textbooks.
The nation would remember this contribution of teachers forever, the education adviser mentioned.
Meanwhile, the written letters have already been delivered to 155 teachers while the rest ones will be sent in phases, Ministry’s Deputy Secretary (Education) Dr AKM Tajkir-uz-Zaman told BSS this afternoon.
The interim government has taken this initiative to do correction in the textbooks as sequel to the news reports four months ago, he added.
This correction process was completed in three stages. These are as follows:
In the first stage, suggestions were taken online from experienced teachers from various schools in Dhaka to correct the errors.
In the second stage, more than a hundred teachers from outside Dhaka were brought to Dhaka and taken directly to the NCTB office where they stayed for two weeks between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (office hours) to correct the errors in the textbooks.
In the third stage, the last errors in the textbooks were corrected by experienced teachers.
