DHAKA, July 20, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said his party wants to build a ‘Rainbow State’ taking everybody on board and sinking differences of opinions in the society.
“We firmly believe that there will have differences of opinions and different ways of progress. Some believe in democracy, some believe in socialism and some believe in welfare state. We want to build a country taking everybody on board,” he said.
The BNP secretary general said this while inaugurating tree plantation programme of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar this morning.
Fakhrul Islam said, BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia much ahead of others thought about reunification of the nation among the diverse political groups.
“Our national leader Begum Khaleda Zia has been nourishing the dream of reform and national unity much before others,” he said.
Fakhrul Islam said, “After the July uprising, there is nothing to be disappointed about the differences of opinions among the political parties.”
Responding to the dismay of the father of a July martyr about the country’s volatile political situation, Fakhrul Islam said, his party wants to build a liberal democratic ‘New Bangladesh’ free from corruption, bribe, killing and oppression.
Fakhrul Islam said his party wants to build a state where people of the country can move freely and comfortably.
“We are very hopeful that our acting chairman Tarique Rahman is taking us toward that goal,” he said.
Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal and Amra BNP Paribar organized the tree plantation programme marking the first anniversary of the July Uprising.
After the inaugural ceremony, the BNP Secretary General planted two Neem tree saplings in the name of Shaheed Saikat and Shaheed Abu Sayeed at a place adjacent to Ziaur Rahman's grave.
Referring to indiscriminate killing of the students and people in police firing during the July uprising, he said, the police force of the fascist government burned down six to seven dead bodies at a time with cruelty.
“We are citizens of an independent country which was liberated in 1971 through war. The police force is entrusted with the duty to protect the life and property of the people and they get salary for this from the tax payers’ money.
“But, Hasina regime used the police force for killing and burning down the innocent people. How cruel and inhuman they were. For this, heinous acts Hasina will remain as a ‘stigma’ of the humanity. She is a disgrace for mothers and she will never be forgiven for this,” Fakhrul Islam said adding that “Our first and foremost task should be her trial.”
The BNP Secretary General said that their second task will be to rehabilitate the families of the martyrs and injured persons.
“Otherwise, the nation will not forgive us in the future,” he added saying BNP has decided to raise a fund to help the families as much as possible. BNP’s acting chairman has already initiated the work through Amra BNP Paribar.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam hoped that the next election will be held in mid-February as per the commitment of the interim government.
“We will be able to form a government of the people through the election which will evaluate these martyrs,” he said.
Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal President Hasan Jafir Tuhin presided over the event, moderated by Amra BNP Paribar convener Atiqur Rahman Rumon.
BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Member Secretary of the July-August Mass Uprising, Mourning and Victory Anniversary Celebration Committee Professor Morshed Hasan Khan, Krishak Dal General Secretary Shahidul Islam Babul and relatives of the four martyrs spoke at the event.
