NARAYANGANJ, 14 July 2025 (BSS) - Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today said the true way to honour the martyrs of the July Uprising is by building an inclusive and discrimination-free Bangladesh.
She said this at the inauguration ceremony of the country’s first “July Martyrs’ Monument” here. Housing and Public Works Ministry implemented the monument, said a press release.
Rizwana said justice, proper recognition, and responsible governance are essential to truly pay tributes to the martyrs.
She said families of the martyrs must be honoured, the list of the injured finalized, and compensation ensured.
Referring to the sacrifice of those who embraced martyrdom, injured in the anti-autocracy student led and Mass Uprising, she said their courage and sacrifice laid the very foundation of today’s independent and democratic Bangladesh.
“The July Uprising teaches us that establishing democracy requires fearless presence on the streets,” she remarked.
“This memorial is not only a remembrance of the past but a reminder of our responsibility toward the future. We must collectively strive to build a just, inclusive Bangladesh to truly honour the martyrs,” she said.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Prof Dr. Asif Nazrul, Industries and Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Education Adviser Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Public Administration Ministry’s Senior Secretary Dr. Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Housing and Public Works Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah were present.
The advisors laid wreaths at the monument to pay homage to the martyrs. They also met the family members of the victims, inquired about their well-being, and expressed deep sympathy.
Later, Rizwana Hasan planted a sapling of tree in memory of the martyrs.
