DHAKA, July 12, 2025 (BSS) – Tarek Rahman Robin, one of the individuals accused in the murder of scrap trader Md. Sohag, has made a confessional statement in court regarding a separate case under the Arms Act.
Robin is listed as the 15th accused in the murder of Sohag (43), who was fatally struck with a stone in Old Dhaka.
Following the completion of a two-day remand, police produced Robin before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court here today.
Robin voluntarily expressed his willingness to make a confessional statement.
Consequently, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Monir Hossain Jibon from Kotwali Police Station, sought court permission to officially record it.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyas recorded Robin's statement and subsequently ordered his incarceration.
Robin was arrested on July 10 from Tantibazar intersection in Dhaka, with army support.
A pistol was recovered from his possession, prompting Sub-Inspector Rushd Hasan of Kotwali Police Station to file a case under the Arms Act.
On the evening of July 9 around 6:00pm, a group of assailants violently attacked and fatally hacked scrap trader Lal Chand, also known as Sohag, on Rajoni Ghosh Lane near Gate No. 3 of Mitford Hospital.
The next day, on July 10, the victim’s elder sister, Manjuara Begum, filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station, naming 19 individuals as accused and additionally identifying 15–20 unknown suspects.
