DHAKA, July 10, 2025 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) has formed a high-level committee to oversee and coordinate matters related to electoral laws, rules, regulations, policies, and the activities of the Electoral Inquiry Committee.
An office order, signed by EC’s Deputy Secretary (Establishment) Md. Shah Alam on Wednesday said: “In continuation of the notification published in the Bangladesh Gazette on December 5, 2024, the following committee is hereby formed to carry out activities related to the formulation, amendment, and modification of the electoral laws, rules, regulations, policies, and to supervise and coordinate the activities of the Electoral Inquiry Committee”.
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud has been made as the head of this committee.
The seven-member committee also includes the EC’s Senior Secretary, Additional Secretary, Joint Secretary (Legal), Joint Secretary (Election Management-1), Deputy Secretary (Election Operations-2), and Deputy Secretary (Election Support and Supplies).
The committee may co-opt any official if necessary, it said.
The committee’s scope of work includes: Formulating, amending, and updating electoral laws, rules, regulations, and policies; Supervising and coordinating the preparation of guidelines/manuals for field administration, law enforcement agencies, returning officers, and polling officials to ensure proper interpretation and implementation of laws; Supervising and coordinating the activities of the Electoral Inquiry Committee; and other relevant matters as applicable.
