Trained youth to build new society: Sharmeen

DHAKA, July 4, 2025 (BSS) - Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid today expressed hope that today's trained youth will help shape a just and progressive society in the days to come.

"Our country has a vast human resource. The government has introduced various training programs to harness this potential. We believe the trained youth will contribute to building a new and just society," she said.

Sharmeen , also the women and children affairs adviser, was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Women and Golden Citizen Trade Festival 2025 at the Madhumati Auditorium of the Department of Social Services in capital's Agargaon area.

Organized by the Sunrider Welfare Foundation, the festival is being held from July 4 to July 6 in memory of the martyrs of the historic July Uprising.

Reflecting on the significance of the July Uprising, the adviser said, "The year marking the July Uprising concludes in 2024. Our youth gave their lives in that movement. No oppressive force could hold them back because, over the last 15 years, a mountain of injustice had grown in the country."

That mountain was shattered by the July War, she added.

"Our youth rose against injustice not for politics but for truth and fairness. If injustice returns, they will rise again - that is the spirit of youth," she stated.

Director General of the Department of Social Services Md Saidur Rahman Khan chaired the event.

Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare Dr. Md. Mohiuddin and Managing Director of the National Disability Development Foundation Bijoy Krishna Debnath also spoke there as special guests, among others.

Later, the adviser visited the families of Shaheed Nafisa Hossain and Shaheed Sanjida Hossain - both martyred during the July uprising - at their residence in Ershad Nagar at Tongi in Gazipur.

She assured the bereaved families of continued support from the Ministry.
