Allegation made with ICT against 62 people for killing JCD leader Jony 

DHAKA, June 29, 2025(BSS) - An allegation was made against 62 people including former lawmaker of Awami League Saber Hossain Chowdhury and former commissioner of DMP Asaduzzaman Miah with the ICT for killing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader Nuruzzaman Jony in the city’s Khilgaon area.

Jony’s father Yakub Ali today made the allegations at the office of the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against the accused persons.

Earlier, the complainant lodged a case in this connection against Saber Hossain Chowdhur, Member of Parliament from Khilgaon-Sabujbagh area and others with Khilgaon Thana on September 3 last year.

The complainant in his allegation said that Jony was picked up by a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police at about 8:00 am on January 19, 2015 while he was returning home from Dhaka Central Jail after meeting with his younger brother. 

Later, the DB police first taken to the office of the DB South and many unknown places and tortured him mercilessly, the complainant added.

The family members of Jony including his pregnant wife Munia Parvin went to Khilgaon Thana, DB South office and office of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in search of her husband but police repeatedly refused his confinement. 

On January 20, at the small hours, he was killed in a ‘cross fire’ at Khilgaon Jorpukur play ground where many residents adjacent to the play ground heard hue and cry of Jony. He cried for water and his mother during the incident.

On hearing the hue and cry of Jony, local residents including Sanjida Akhter Setu, wife of Saifuddin, a resident of Khilgaon block-A and Lovely Begum of block-C went to the spot and saw many policemen including the plain clothed persons. Police claimed that Jony was killed in an encounter with police.

The body of Jony was later taken to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy where Jony’s relatives found 16 bullet wounds in his body. There was also many injury marks on his body, the relatives claimed.
