MIST Environment Fest 2025 held to mark World Environment Day

DHAKA, June 29, 2025 (BSS) - Department of Environmental, Water Resources, and Coastal Engineering at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) organized a two-day 'MIST Environment Fest 2025' from June 28 to 29 to celebrate World Environment Day, following this year's theme, "Beat Plastic Pollution." 

The event aimed to raise awareness about plastic pollution and inspire sustainable practices, according to an ISPR press release issued today.

Engineering students from across Bangladesh actively took part in four engaging competitions - Poster Presentation, GIS Case Competition, Environmental Article Writing, and Buzzer Blitz Contest - providing a dynamic platform for sharing innovative ideas and solutions to environmental challenges.

Lt Gen S M Kamrul Hassan, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, attended the event as the chief guest. He highlighted the urgent need to protect the environment and take immediate action against plastic pollution, echoing the festival's theme.

Major General Md Nasim Parvez, Commandant of MIST, stressed the importance of raising public awareness and exploring alternatives to plastic in order to tackle environmental problems contributing to the global climate crisis.

The keynote speaker, Dr Md Mafizur Rahman from BUET, discussed global initiatives to combat plastic pollution, including innovative technologies, corporate commitments, and government policies promoting sustainability.

Technical sessions further addressed critical issues such as Bangladesh's sanitation challenges, presented by Dr Abdullah Al-Muyeed from the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), and the role of youth leadership in an era of climate change and uncertainty, discussed by Nayoka Martinez B„ckstr”m from the Embassy of Sweden.
