Investigative journalism boosts public confidence in judiciary: Mahbuba

DHAKA, June 29, 2025 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana today said the significance of investigative journalism in establishing justice and rule of law is immense.

"Investigative journalism stands for the truth and ensures transparency. It also plays an important role in increasing public confidence in the judicial system," she said while addressing as chief guest a workshop for law reporters at National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMCO).

Organized jointly by Supreme Court Administration and UNDP with the assistance from the Swedish Embassy in Dhaka, the workshop titled "Strengthening Investigative Journalism for Law Reporters" was presided over by NIMCO Director General Muhammad Hiruzzaman.

Supreme Court Registrar General Dr Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan presented key-note speech at the function, highlighting major progress in implementing judicial reform roadmap announced by the Chief Justice.

Assistant Resident Representative at UNDP Bangladesh Anowarul Haq addressed the workshop as special guest, saying, investigative journalism is not only a job, it is a powerful means to establish justice.

"The media can convey the voice of the people to the policymakers of the state. UNDP is working closely with the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Law on judicial reform," he added.

NIMCO Director General Muhammad Hiruzzaman in his speech dubbed the journalists as the pioneers of social change.
