DNCC to set up AQM devices in all wards

DHAKA, June 23, 2025 (BSS)- Air quality monitoring (AQM) equipment will gradually be installed in every ward in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area.


DNCC administrator Mohammad Azaz today said this in the closing ceremony of a two-day workshop on Air Quality Monitoring at the DNCC auditorium, said a press release.


Air monitoring devices have already been set up in some key locations of ten zones, the administrator said. 
Air quality is being monitored under a research project, he said adding this initiative is being carried out with financial support from Vital Strategy and technical assistance from the Nature Conservation Management Organization (NACOM).


As part of the project, sensor-based instruments are measuring airborne pollutants like MP2.5 (fine particulate matter) and nitrogen dioxide.


Currently, air monitoring stations have been set up in Uttara, Mohammadpur, Kachkura, Ward Councillor Offices, Community Centres, and Regional Offices.


The Administrator emphasized that efforts are underway to make Dhaka a climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable city. DNCC is working with full force to achieve this vision, he said.


During the upcoming monsoon season, he said, DNCC plans to plant between 300,000 to 500,000 trees across. A green zone will be created in each ward in addition to ongoing efforts for beautification of banks of the lakes and canals, he added.


DNCC Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman and other top officials were also present. At the end of the workshop, the Administrator distributed certificates among the participants.
