DHAKA, June 21, 2025 (BSS) - Environment, Forest and Climate Change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today said the government is actively working to promote the production of multi-purpose products using bamboo, cane, and sustainable alternatives to wood.

She added that alongside rubberwood, the Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC) is undertaking effective initiatives to expand the use of eco-friendly alternative products.

Rizwana noted that a modern showroom will play a crucial role in marketing high-quality items, which will not only increase government revenue but also encourage the use of environment-friendly goods and enhance public trust in government-produced items.

The adviser made these remarks during a visit to the BFIDC Cabinet Manufacturing Plant in Mirpur, Dhaka, to inspect the proposed site for establishing the showroom.

She said this initiative aims to make government-produced household wooden products more accessible and attractive to the public.

Highlighting the durability, technical craftsmanship, and efficient use of local resources in BFIDC's products, Rizwana said these qualities are sufficient to build consumer confidence.

She stressed the importance of leveraging these strengths to make the state-run forest industry sector more competitive.

BFIDC officials presented the production processes, technical capabilities, and proposed site layout to the adviser.

She instructed them to consult with relevant experts to finalise the location and expedite the implementation of related activities.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed, BFIDC Chairman Md. Nasir Uddin, and other senior officials from the ministry and corporation were present during the visit.
