DHAKA, June 10, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will return home 'soon', said the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He spoke about this possibility while talking to reporters at the party chairperson's office in Gulshan this morning.

When asked about specific date, Fakhrul said, "He will return soon."
However, the BNP Secretary General did not say anything about the date.
Mirza Fakhrul also highlighted the health condition of BNP leader Khaleda Zia in the briefing.

He said, “Alhamdulillah, she seems to be in better physical condition than before. Doctors also said that she is much better than before.”

The BNP Secretary General had gone to Thailand for an eye surgery. After undergoing the surgery there, he returned home the night before Eid.

The BNP Secretary General came to the Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Tuesday to exchange Eid greetings with journalists.

There, he spoke about politics, elections, Tarique Rahman’s meeting with the chief adviser in London, seat agreement with the election partners, the activities of the interim government, the reform commission and various other issues.

BNP has been demanding parliamentary elections by December. However, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus said in his address to the nation on Friday; the elections will be held in the first half of April.

When asked about the government's decision, Mirza Fakhrul said, "Look, we have not taken any party decision on this matter. We hope that the government will consider it, consider it in the context of reality."

Mirza Fakhrul said there will be a meeting between Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, who is visiting the UK, and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in London. The meeting is expected to be held between 9 am and 11 am local time on Friday.

A journalist wanted to know whether he sees any possibility of any change in the election date through Tarique Rahman’s meeting with the Chief Adviser.

The BNP Secretary General said, "I am a very positive person and I always want to see the positive side, I want to see the bright side. I think this is an opportunity. This is the right time, the right place, the right place where new horizons can be opened, what else."

After his release from prison in 2008, Tarique Rahman went to London for advanced treatment. His wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman were also with him. After that, they did not return to the country during the Awami League period.

After the fall of the Awami League-led government on August 5 last year, Tarique Rahman was acquitted in one case after another.

Finally, on May 28, the High Court acquitted Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman in the ACC case.

After 17 years, Zubaida returned to the country from London with her mother-in-law on May 6; however, Tarique has not returned yet.
