Anisul for following ideals of Abdul Baset Majumder

DHAKA, Nov 13, 2021 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today urged the young lawyers to follow the ideals of eminent lawyer Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder.

"Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder was a lawyer for poor people. His contributions to the arena of law will always be remembered," he was addressing as the chief guest a memorial meeting on Abdul Baset Majumder at Supreme Court Bar Association office premises.

Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad and Baset Majumder's family arranged the meeting followed by doa mahfil.

Awami League Presidium Member and former Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim, former minister Advocate Qamrul Islam, Attorney General and Supreme Court Bar Association President AM Amin Uddin, AL Legal Affairs Secretary Advocate Najibullah Hiru and High Court Division Justice Justice Md. Abu Zafor Siddique addressed it, among others.

Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad Convener Senior Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun chaired the meeting which was moderated by Dhaka South City Corportation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.

Abdul Baset Majumder's son Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Sayeed Ahmed Raja sought doa from all for his father's eternal peace.

Speakers at the memorial meeting said Baset Majumder acted as like as indispensible guardian of all in the arena of law.

Majumder showed the path how to work for people, they said adding that Baset Majumder had outstanding contribution to build the new building for Bangladesh Bar Council.

Abdul Baset Majumder was former vice-chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council, Bangabandhu Ainjibi Parishad joint convener and AL Advisory Council member and Supreme Court Bar Association former President.

On October 27 last, the eminent lawyer passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital.

After the programme while talking to journalists, Law Minister Anisul Huq said a letter would be sent to the Chief Justice for seizing power of the judge who pronounced verdict in the Raintree hotel rape case.

In the verdict, a recommendation was kept asking police to refrain from receiving a case if a rape victim comes to the police station after 72 hours of the incident.

In this regard, the minister said he would like to clearly say that the Judge's observation over refraining from receiving a rape case after 72 hours of the incident is completely illegal and unconstitutional.

He said that is why he would write a letter to the chief justice over the matter.
