DHAKA, May 29, 2025 (BSS) – German Ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Tröster has said his country is keen to provide assistance to Bangladesh for transiting to low carbon emission and energy efficacy especially in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) sector.
“Germany remains firmly committed to supporting Bangladesh in its transition to low-emission, energy-efficient cooling, demonstrating how international cooperation can drive impactful climate action,” he said.
The envoy made the remarks while speaking at a workshop titled “Future of Green Cooling Technology of Bangladesh”, organized by Department of Environment with the supported of German Development Cooperation (GIZ) in Dhaka recently.
“Germany and Bangladesh: Advancing sustainable solutions in the cooling sector with the Green Cooling Initiative (GCI) III project, GIZ has supported Bangladesh in promoting energy-efficient technologies in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) sector and in reducing harmful emissions,” said German embassy in a press release.
The project has been implemented through its technical implementation agency GIZ and in collaboration with the Department of Environment.
“As GCI concludes, the launch of the new Green Room Air-conditioning (GRACE) project marks the next step in our joint journey towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient future,” said the release.
In urban areas, this sector accounts for around 40 percent of the electricity consumption and contributes in the Global South to over 10 percent of total greenhouse gas emissions, it added.
