DHAKA, May 28, 2025 (BSS) – Adviser to the Ministries of Social Welfare and Women and Child Affairs, Sharmeen S Murshid today highlighted the vital role of social service officers in uplifting marginalized communities, describing them as a driving force for change.

“The Ministry of Social Welfare is devoted to supporting the oppressed in society. You, the youth trainees, are not just symbols of hope — you are the ones who can truly transform the lives of the helpless,” she said.

The adviser made these remarks today as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the basic training course for assistant social service officers, organized by the Social Service Academy in the capital’s Department of Social Services, said a press release.

She urged the trainees to work tirelessly for the welfare of the country’s deprived communities, encouraging them to embrace their new roles as Assistant Social Service Officers with dedication and compassion.

“The untapped space we have in social service should be served by creating love for people and our work,” she added. 

Speaking about the past, Sharmeen criticized previous governments for failing to serve the people, fostering a culture of exploitation, dishonesty, and corruption. She noted that this injustice sparked a spirit of protest among the youth, leading to the July uprising and the birth of a new Bangladesh.

She urged the trainees never to forget this struggle, calling on everyone to work together in building a better future for the nation.

Sharmeen Murshid further said, “Our duty is to protect the vulnerable in society. We want to open the doors of this ministry so that the poor can easily access services and returned with happiness.”

She added, “This responsibility belongs to young people like you, you will move forward with new enthusiasm in your work. We all dream of a beautiful new Bangladesh.”

At the event, the adviser presented an artificial leg to Mohammad Limon Hossain, a physically challenged individual, who expressed his gratitude to her and the Ministry of Social Services.

At the end of the event, the adviser presented certificates, crests and medals among 35 trainees.
 
With Director General of the Department of Social Services Md. Saidur Rahman Khan, Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Md. Mohiuddin joined the event as the special guest. 

Social Service Academy Principal Md. Shahi Newaz, Vice Principal Abul Fazal Md. Aman Ullah, Lecturer Nurul Amin, and trainees Ariful Alam, Rizvi Akhtar, and Moniruzzaman also spoke.
